Who can participate?
To qualify, you should have a primarily creative occupation and/or participate in approximately 20+ hours of creative activities in a typical week. You must be older than 18 years old. If you are unsure of your qualification, do not hesitate to contact the researcher.
What is involved with participation?
Participation is entirely voluntary. First, you will be asked to complete an initial survey which will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Then, for the following 13 days, we will send you a shorter survey once a day in the evening. Each day's survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
Are there any known risks to participating?
We do not foresee any risks in participating. You will be asked various questions about yourself, your creative activities, mood, emotions, and well-being. While the content of these questions are not anticipated to be sensitive, each person is different in how they feel during self-reflection. If for any reason you do not wish to continue with the study, you are free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.
Are there any benefits to participating?
There are no known personal benefits, however, some participants may enjoy the process of reflecting on their creative practices. Additionally, if you complete the study, you will have a chance to win one of four £50 cash gift cards. On a larger scale, your participation contributes towards the scientific understanding of the relationships between creativity, mental health, and well-being.
Is my participation confidential?
All information collected about you in the course of this research will be kept strictly confidential. You will be identified only through a unique identifier. This allows your data to be linked between the days of your participation, or to withdraw your data in the future should you wish to.
Who is conducting this research?
This study is being run by Kaile Smith, a MSc psychology student at the Goldsmiths, University of London under the supervision of Dr. Joydeep Bhattacharya and Dr. Alan Pickering. More information about the researchers and supervisors can be found at this link.
Will I get anything for participating?
Upon completion of the full study, you will be entered into a raffle win one of four £50 cash gift cards. Winners will be drawn once all participants complete the study (Summer 2021). We will contact you if you win. Gift cards will be sent to your email. Bots, scammers, and repeat submissions are excluded from the data and are not eligible.
What will happen to the study's results?
This research is part of a post-graduate dissertation that will be submitted in partial fulfillment of a MSc in Psychology. A report of the findings from this study may be submitted for future publication. No participant will be identifiable in any way. If you would like a summary of the findings, please email a request to the researcher or sign up for updates at the bottom of the page.
What are my about rights as a participant (data subject) in this study?
Goldsmiths’ full General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) is a series of conditions designed to protect an individual's personal data. Not all data collected for research is personal data. The full GDPR policy for research can be downloaded here.
